YouTube Music offers to transfer all the content that subscribers had until now to Google Play Music. The end of Google's ancestral service is scheduled for the year 2021.
YouTube Music will soon replace Google Play Music. The process is underway since on May 12, Google offered to transfer the entire Google Play Music library to this new application. The transfer, effective for a few hours, is as easy as pie. Just launch the YouTube Music app and sign in to your Google account. Then, the software offers you the transfer. It's up to you to accept it or not.
All user data is thus copied: Purchases, playlists, preferences, favorites… The maneuver can take more or less time. It should be noted that Google Play Music is still usable after this operation. But we will soon have to say goodbye to him, since the Mountain View firm will soon close this service.
Google Play Music will soon be phased out
Google has not given an end date for its Play Music, but the service, little used today, will close later this year. YouTube Music will thus become the firm's only music platform. YouTube Music will be installed by default on Android 10. This will also be the case on all future smartphones running Android 9.
Google Play Music is currently no longer installed by default on sold terminals. YouTube Music, more modern focused on streaming, has a lot to do to attract users who now have their little habits on the services to which they are subscribed. It will be very difficult to get them to change.
According to Statista, Spotify is the broad leader, capturing 36% of the music streaming service market. Apple Music is second with 18% market share, benefiting from the huge user base of Apple products. Google captures only 5% of the market. There is therefore everything to gain for the Mountain View firm, which relies heavily on YouTube Music.
