LG X Power2: our review

LG X Power2: our review

Presented during the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, LG X Power2 had intrigued us and not a little. The mobile device, the successor of the smartphone released a year ago, makes autonomy its strong point, thus meeting the tedious problem that afflicts many smartphone owners.

However, it is not only the battery that has been changed, now since 4.500 mAh, but also screen and processor. Let's see them specifically.

A look at the technical characteristics

LG X power2 shows up with a Mediatek MT6750 octa-core 1,5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 2TB thanks to the inevitable microSD.

Connectivity is guaranteed by the support for LTE networks, by WiFi 802.11 b, g, n (therefore not of the latest generation), by Bluetooth 4.2 and by a classic micro USB 2.0 input.

Finally, as regards the photographic behavior we have a 5 megapixel front camera with LED flash and Wide Angle and that 13 megapixel rear, also equipped with LED flash.

Nothing original on the western front

Compared to its predecessor, LG X Power2 is equipped with a 5,5 inch LCD with IPS technology and HD resolution which boasts, among other things, a comfortable reading mode which helps less eye strain.

The display during our test seemed to us discreet, but nothing particularly exciting. We honestly expected something more.

The same goes for the design, definitely not innovative. The increase in size, combined with an understandable thickness (8.4mm however justified by the battery) make the smartphone unwieldy. Fortunately, the plastic of which LG X power2 is made makes it easier to grip, thus avoiding unexpected falls.

An amazing front camera

LG X Power2 is equipped with a rear camera from 13 megapixel with LED flash, which manages, with good lighting, to give enjoyable photos. Unfortunately we cannot say the same for photos taken in low light, which are less defined and accompanied by a very unpleasant noise.

The front camera, with its 5 megapixels, turned out to be surprisingly good, able to offer almost superior shots compared to the one placed on the back of the smartphone. Plus it is wide-angle, which will allow you to take selfies including more people.

However, both sensors seem to be accompanied by a common defect: slow and imprecise focusing, which will force you to repeat the shot several times.

Discrete performance

Compared to last year's version, the LG X Power2 hardware is now updated, as demonstrated by the Mediatek processor and the Mali T860Mp GPU. However, this does not translate into record performance. LG X power2 is comfortable and simple to use, but not extremely responsive, which made us turn up our noses more than once.

Even the audio did not particularly surprise us, probably thanks to the speaker placed in the lower part (as happened for LG K8 2017) and a not very high volume. The ear capsule, on the other hand, performs well on calls, with a clear and noise-free sound.

Fortunately, the battery takes care of reviving the fortunes of this smartphone. Thanks to its 4500 mAh, the battery lasts three days with average use, two or a half days with more intensive use. But be careful: if you really put the device to the test, you will notice the overheating of the rear compartment that houses the battery.

Conclusions

[

With the same figure -  269 Euros - it is possible to bring home devices that offer something more from the hardware point of view.

What is certain is that if you are looking for a rather basic device but with a really immense battery, LG X Power2 is for you.
