Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review - Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 is the latest controller made by the French brand and usable on both PlayStation 4 and PC. But it's worth the money 99,99 € for this device? We have been testing it for a few days and now we are ready to respond.

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review: unboxing

We enjoyed Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 from the very first unboxing. The packaging is in fact quite rich. Not only do we have the pad with his 3 meter long USB-C cable, but also well six weights - 2x10g, 2x14g, 2x16g - that we can insert inside the controller to weigh it down and adapt it to our needs.

Complete the picture a microfiber cloth it's a fabric case which allows you to preserve and / or transport Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3.

Compared to the previous version, something is missing. It is true. Revolution Pro Controller 2 in fact had a sort of small key that opened the two compartments dedicated to the insertion of weights. Here it is missing. An oversight? Absolutely not. Actually, now just slide the grips down to insert them, so you don't have to worry about having some strange object available to change the weight of the pad on the fly.

A familiar look

Aesthetically we are not particularly far from the previous models. On the contrary, we find again always the same asymmetrical design, typical of Xbox controllers and particularly popular with most video games.

What is different are small but decisive details.

Let's start from the center with the touchpad that boasts a longer and more satisfying stroke, while on its sides we have the Share and Option keys which are slightly larger. Below instead we find 4 LEDs that help you understand which advanced profile you are using, LEDs that are much more useful and visible than those seen on the Pro Controller 2 where they were reduced to a tiny dot, difficult to identify.

Also different is the PlayStation button, which is now slightly concave, as well as the directional cross that passes from 8 to 4 ways. Finally we have the analogs with the left one unchanged and the right one that becomes concave to increase grip during the most frenetic actions.

Finally, on the right, the traditional keys which have not undergone a major restyling but which, undoubtedly, are more solid than those seen on the original PlayStation controller.

Let's now move on to the back that houses first of all the triggers: wide, comfortable and slightly curved, guarantee an excellent grip and all the speed you need. Lovers of customization, however, will focus on all the other buttons on the back of this device. First of all we have a small switch that allows you to change modes: 1 is the basic mode dedicated to PlayStation, 2 is the advanced one and PC, as you can guess, you need to use Nacon Revolution Pro 3 with a computer. The button is also available Profile which, once you enter mode 2, allows you to change profiles choosing 4 presets that you can customize using the dedicated software.

The program, available for Windows and MacOS, also allows you to customize the 4 additional rear buttons. Yes, you got it right: compared to a standard controller you have other buttons available to which you can associate any functionality. The problem, however, is the location. The keys, located on the inside of the handle, are difficult to reach and, consequently, quite uncomfortable.

One last note: we talked about the additional features of Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 but in reality there are also missing elements. In fact, you will not find the motion sensors, the speaker and the light bar present on the DualShock instead, which means that you won't be able to use it for virtual reality.

Personalization is extreme

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review: is it better than 2? ?We had appreciated the extreme degree of customization of the Pro Controller 2 and we can only do the same with its successor. The Nacon software, downloadable for free from the official website, it allows you to adapt the device to your needs by changing every single aspect.

You can change the sensitivity of the sticks, the travel of the backbones, change the functionality of the additional keys or remap all the buttons. You can even decide on the color and effects of the lighting.

There is, as we anticipated before, the possibility of create - or download from the cloud - 4 profiles different to use for as many games so you can have a dedicated FPS configuration, one suitable for adventure titles, one for driving games and so on.

The only thing we've missed is clarity. In fact, many parameters are not clear to everyone, especially if you are approaching the world of alternative controllers for the first time. In short, a few more explanations to understand what changes by modifying a certain parameter would have been useful.

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review: use

We liked Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 a lot for a lot of different reasons. First of all it is solid, comfortable and holds well, even if the knurled texture that we find on the back does not increase the grip in any way. Probably a rubberized finish would have been more useful for the purpose.

We loved the sticks and their ability to keep the thumbs still analog, we loved the front keys because they are well positioned and have great travel and we loved the weights, a real godsend because they help you to adapt the product to your needs.

Impossible not to say in favor of the cable: it's removable - so when you get angry and yank it off instead of letting the console fall to the ground - and it's USB-C, so you can easily replace it in case of breakage or loss.

We weren't too excited about the additional keys. The stance has changed from the Pro Controller 2 but continues to be uncomfortable. In the end we gave up using them because being able to press them in-game is a feat and most of your will risk dying just to be able to find and use them.

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 review: buy it or not?

Nacon Revolution Pro Controller 3 is available on the market at 99,99 € and yes, it is worth investing your money in this product. But know that it is not for everyone: if you are a casual gamer, if you are not devoted to performance and above all you do not have a PC to configure it, we suggest you continue to use the Dual Shock.

On the contrary, if you are looking for something more, if you are extremely competitive and you want to be able to beat your friends, it could be a really interesting investment.
