Asian TV series on Netflix: from China with fury, Meteor Garden

Let's start this journey with number 5 on our ranking: Meteor Garden.

This is the remake of the Taiwanese TV series of the same name 2001, in turn inspired by the manga Hanayori Dango, which in its time literally conquered Asia, becoming one of the most popular Asian dramas ever. The plot revolves around Dong Shancai, a girl who is admitted to the most prestigious university in the country. Here he meets the F4, a group formed by the four most popular boys of the institute: Daoming Si, Huaze Lei, Yan Ximen and Feng Meizuo.

Due to a small accident, the girl immediately clashes with them, in particular with Daoming Si, a spoiled, arrogant and bossy boy who immediately targets her. Shancai, however, has no intention of giving up and thanks to her strong personality she manages to keep up with the boy. Ximen, Lei and Meizuo recognize that the girl has character and, over time, develop a strong friendship: Daoming Si, on the other hand, begins to see her with different eyes.

It is a TV series of a certain depth that, in addition to the original Taiwanese version, counts various remakes including the Japanese (2005), Korean (2009), Chinese (2009) and the current one, also branded Made in China, but set in the present day. Small but important premise before continuing: Meteor Garden is a particular series, you will certainly notice it also from the trailer.

There are many scenes or situations that they could never happen in real life and they could, according to my father, remember the South American telenovelas but do not turn up your nose because of this element or the fact that, being a language and a culture different from ours, you can feel disoriented. At the beginning my first thought was “what a strange language!”, But continuing and entering a different perspective from mine, I really started to appreciate and love it.

Putting aside the tragic and unreal scenes that, trust me dear friends, make the series fun, the story is endearing and if you are like me even a little bit, you will arrive in the middle of the season without even realizing it. From the beginning you will be captured by the plot and probably love towards some characters will blossom, but also likes and dislikes.

At the beginning, the acting of the actors may turn out to be flat or almost non-existent: don't even be fooled by this because the fact that they speak a language other than ours almost twists reality. In reality the main actors, but also the secondary ones, act very well and succeed in perfectly play the role of the difficult characters they play, also allowing the public to identify with them.

Photography, in my opinion, is excellent and the thing I probably loved most of all is there colonna sonora: it is intense, intriguing and there are some scenes that work thanks to it! What left me speechless was to discover that some songs are written and performed by the four main male actors, young but talented: besides you will not find only Chinese music, there will also be international songs. The episodes are enough: the series counts 49 of forty minutes each but I'm sure, if this series gets you, it will be the end for you (and the series).

In short, my dear readers, if you are looking for an Asian TV series that is a bit trashy (in the good sense of the word), what do you think? amuse but also move - because yes, there are very unrealizable moments but also scenes that will make you whimper a little bit - Meteor Garden is perfect for you.

It's fresh, crisp (are we talking about a series or water?) And very interesting indeed. I myself was uncertain at the beginning, but two episodes were enough for me to fall in love: moreover you are certainly luckier than me because today Netflix has released the last episodes, so you can see it without having to wait a week like the loser here.
