Nokia 5000A review: the 50-inch Android TV experience
Nokia 5000A Smart TV cover review

Between the arrival of the second generation of digital terrestrial, the various sporting events, but above all the growth of home multimedia entertainment, the television it has become even more central to our homes. To help you navigate the huge variety of devices currently on the market, today we offer you ours review di Nokia Smart TV 5000A, a TV big, smart e not too expensive.

Our Nokia 5000A TV review

The 5000A is just one of the TVs from A league by Nokia, characterized by smart models of various sizes with the operating system on board Android TV. This model in particular stands out for having a resolution 4K UHD HDR (the highest available for the line), a diagonal of 50" (126cm) it's a central pedestal.

This last aspect, unlike solutions with side feet, allows you to place the TV on cabinets too relatively smalldespite its size. However, for any type of installation alternative to the default one, a standard VESA mount. The relatively low weight (9 kg) allows you to mount it and position it quite easily (even if there are still operations to be done if possible in two).

Still remaining on the assembly, negative note for the power cord, which results a bit short. It can be remedied with a power strip or extension cable, but a small deficiency remains. The selection of ports on the back is satisfactory, although still quite standard. In fact, we find:

  • 2 USB 2.0 ports for external storage devices and powering sticks and small devices
  • 4 HDMI, all CEC (i.e. capable of actions such as turning on the automatic TV) and with an ARC (i.e. usable, as well as an audio input, also as audio output for compatible speakers and soundbars)
  • Digital terrestrial antenna input
  • Satellite antenna input
  • Composite AV IN input
  • VGA input
  • Optical audio output
  • Ethernet input
  • Audio output jack

Big content

The large size of the panel, together with the aforementioned quality 4K HDR, ensure a great viewing experience for all types of content. This does not mean that there are no limits, since we are still talking in a normal panel LED LCD, and not instead of a more handsome one OLED o QLED (here our article summarizing the various differences). Despite therefore the support for the standard HDR10, the blacks are dark but not very deep, and in very dark scenes you can see the LED backlight. Details that however do not affect most of the time and with the vast majority of contents.

From the audio point of view, we find two speakers from 10W very potenti e clear. Even in a very large room, you won't have any volume issues, even if you keep yourself at relatively low levels. Furthermore, we do not advise you to push yourself to the maximum volume because beyond a certain threshold you may begin to notice some distortions, typical when approaching 100%.

The beauty of Android TV

One of the strengths of this TV is undoubtedly the integration of the operating system Android TV, one of the best around. Its presence will allow you to access all digital services without the need to compromise or buy an external TV box. Netflix, Disney +, DAZN, Spotify but also interactive services such as Stadia: Play Store allows you to access a truly complete experience.

Speaking of TV boxes, we cannot fail to compare this TV, obviously on the merits, with the Nokia Streaming Box 8000 with Android TV (find our review here). Although obviously these are very different devices (the second must be paired with a TV to work, the first is autonomous) the internal hardware is very similar: a Cortex-A55 quad-core processor, GPU Mali (but much more recent for the TV box), RAM DRR3 (1.5 GB for TV, 2 GB for the box), 8GB eMMC internal memory. The final experience is very similar, with a slightly greater fluidity for the TV box, but with the advantage of greater integration and completeness of the system (TV channels, output management) on the TV.

Another similarity between the box and the TV lies in the remote control, with a very similar design and in both cases equipped with two very useful features: a microphone to interact with Google Assistant and backlight to see the keys in the dark.

Nokia Smart TV 5000A review: our conclusions

As can be seen from our Nokia Smart TV 5000A review, we are talking about a very complete product that certainly covers the fundamentals. In evaluating the purchase, however, some external factors must also be considered. In fact, if you already have a television 4K, even slightly smaller and maybe not HDR, and you are mainly interested in the Android TV experience, you will probably find much more value in buying a box like the one offered by Nokia. If, on the other hand, you currently have a device that is also deficient in terms of resolution and / or size and you are interested in keeping yourself under the range of €600 (thus avoiding QLED and OLED), the Nokia product (list price €549,90) proposes itself as an excellent candidate.
