Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

How to download the application in Europe?

This is the main problem currently for us, poor Europeans, the application is not yet officially available on the of the country (or Belgian, Swiss, Luxembourg) Play Store. Pokémon Go should arrive on the Google app store very soon, once its server issues are resolved, and in the meantime it is still possible to download an .apk file and manually install it on your phone. To do this, nothing could be simpler, follow the guide.

  • Download Pokémon Go on APK Mirror

Be careful though, even downloading and installing it, it seems that Pokémon Go is not compatible with all phones. Some Zenfone 2's have been compatible for a few days, but the app still seems to struggle with phones that have Intel chips or don't have gyroscopes.

The answers to your questions

What is the limit in km / h to hatch an egg? Does it matter if you are on a bicycle?

We are not going to give a definitive answer because they vary from person to person. Some have fun, for example, to hatch eggs by letting themselves be rocked in city buses, which have to stop regularly because of fires, traffic, etc. This way certainly fools the GPS, and a bike ride can surely have the same effect. However, many explain that from a speed higher than running (so about 15 km / h, to see wide), displacement is not taken into account ...

Our advice is to walk in a straight line, because Pokémon Go has the annoying tendency of not counting the steps taken when walking in a more circular manner.

What is the maximum level on Pokémon Go?

It seems that it is only possible to go up to level 40. However, it is for the moment quite easy to climb up to level 25, but the XP requested afterwards are very important.

What about internet consumption of the Pokémon Go application?

...

How to catch Pokémon?

Here you have installed Pokémon Go on your smartphone, created your account, briefly personalized your trainer, and you have chosen your starting Pokémon. While we're at it, know that it is possible to choose Pikachu as the starting Pokémon. To do this, physically move away (walk away from the three starting Pokémon) and come back. Pikachu should appear in the starting roster circle.

To capture Pokémon, it couldn't be simpler, just throw a Pokéball at the Pokémon in question and wait for it to capture it. Keeping your finger pressed on the Pokéball, a green circle appears around the Pokémon. The goal is to throw the Pokéball into this green circle.

On the left: the smaller the circle, the more difficult it is to catch the Pokémon, but also the more experience it brings.

To find Pokémon, you just have to walk around and wait for the phone to vibrate. The Pokémon hide in the "grasses", the leaves which move, in a random fashion. You should know that the environment in which you find yourself is more or less taken into account. The closer you are to the natural habitat of a type of Pokémon (water, green space), the more likely it is to appear.

When a Pokémon appears on the map, just click on it to start the fight. In the center, the window allowing to see the Pokémon which are nearby.

If you find Pokémon everywhere "naturally", it is also possible to attract them with objects.

  • Incense : They allow Pokémon to be attracted to the player for 30 minutes. The best is still to use them while moving, so as to attract the most different Pokémon towards you. You can find them by leveling up your trainer or by buying in the ingame store.
  • Lure modules : Like incense, they can attract Pokémon for 30 minutes. But with two major differences: the module binds to a Pokéstop and it attracts Pokémon for all surrounding players.

Here, a Lure module placed on a Pokéstop. It attracts all nearby Pokémon and allows all surrounding players to benefit from it.

Last point, at the bottom right of the screen, in exploration mode, is a table with Pokémons and footprints. These are the Pokémon that are nearby and the footprints represent their proximity. One footprint means he's a few yards away while three footsteps mean he's quite a distance away.

How do eggs work in Pokémon Go?

Sometimes in the Pokéstop, the player will collect eggs, in addition to Pokéballs or Reminders. These eggs are stored in the Pokémon menu, in an Egg tab. To hatch them, you have to put them in an incubator. The latter will hatch the egg spent a certain number of kilometers walking with the application on on his phone. Note that we start the game with an incubator and that we get another when the trainer goes to level 6. There are finally three different types of eggs:

  • Common egg: you have to travel 2 km to hatch it
  • Uncommon egg: you have to travel 5 km to hatch
  • Rare egg: you have to travel 10 km to hatch

Basically, it is possible to have up to nine eggs maximum. It takes a certain number of km to hatch them.

Obviously, the rarer the egg, the rarer the Pokémon inside. Rare eggs, for example, allow you to get your hands on Snorlax, Minidraco, Eevee or Lippoutou, among others.

What are PCs in Pokémon Go?

Have you done a few kilometers and caught your first Piafabec and Rattata, but you don't understand what is displayed on the screen when you click on it for details? This is normal, Pokémon Go explains absolutely nothing. Let us try to clear all this up a bit.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

A Pokémon's value is measured by the number of CPs and its potential bar.

First of all, it is necessary to lay down some definitions. Each Pokémon is classified according to its CP, its "battle points". The higher its CP, the more effective the Pokémon in question will be in combat and therefore in arenas (we come back to this a little lower, in the combat part). Finally, just below these PCs is a semi-circular arc. This represents the potential of the Pokémon. When the arc of a circle is filled to the maximum, it means that the Pokémon is at the maximum of its combat capacities and its CP can no longer grow. When the circle is not filled, the Pokémon will gain power with reloads and evolutions.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

Some examples of good Pokémon: their CPs are high, their potential bar is still quite far from its maximum and they can evolve.

This has several implications. Catching a Pokémon with a low CP count and an already full potential bar makes this a poor quality catch. On the other hand, catching a Pokémon at the first stage of its evolution with very high CPs (generally several tens / hundreds of CPs) and a bar that is not very full is a choice that we will seek to develop and improve.

How to evolve a Pokémon?

Now that you understand the difference between a good Pokémon (or promising Pokémon) and a bad Pokémon, how do you improve and strengthen good catches? The answer can be found on the card for the Pokémon of your choice. It is possible either to "recharge" it, or to "upgrade" it.

Let's start with recharging. Recharging does two things: it fills your Pokémon's life bar as much as possible (hence its name) and improves its CP. It is thanks to it that your Pokémon become more powerful. To recharge a Pokémon, it is necessary to spend Stardust - which is earned by catching Pokémon - as well as by spending candy of the species in question.

Reloading your Pokémon allows you to increase your CP.

Evolution then. This is obviously the basic mechanic of the Pokémon series. The evolution, which is also paid for in stardust and candy, will modify the Pokémon, change its appearance and bring it new attacks. Above all, she improves her CP without touching her potential bar.

Note that it is possible to transfer your Pokémon to the Professor in order to earn additional candy and free up Pokémon slots.

How to make fight his Pokémon?

You have your first Pokémon and you have carefully selected them to be stuffed with CP. It is therefore the hour to make them fight and to make them know the glory. In Pokémon Go, there is no question of attacking people in the street to ask them to take out their Pokémon, here everything takes place in arenas.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

Approaching an arena, here owned by the blue team.

First of all, you should know that arena battles can only be unlocked from level 5. Once this level has been passed, the player is asked to choose a team among the three available: yellow, blue or red. Once selected (it is no longer possible to change teams after choosing one), the player will defend his colors and try to take as many arenas as possible.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

Arena combat requires overcoming a "big" Pokémon by lining up 6 of its own Pokémon.

We will not describe the complete functioning of the arenas. What you should know is that each arena is usually taken by a team (yellow, blue or red) and that they place Pokémon to defend them. To take over the arena, the player will then face this unique Pokémon with a team of 6 Pokémon belonging to the player.

The fights themselves are very simplistic: the player can attack, and dodge to the right or to the left. Each eliminated Pokémon must be revived by a “Recall” item, which can be found in the Item section of the game.

How do I get Poképoins?

If Pokémon Go is free to download, it is nonetheless a free to play game and as such has an in-app purchase store. Against hard cash (real euros what), it is possible to buy Pokécoins, which will then allow you to buy various game objects.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

For now, only the shop and the arenas allow you to get your hands on lure modules (which it is however possible to loot very rarely in Pokéstops), chance eggs (to double the experience for 30 minutes) or to expand its inventory and storage of Pokémon. As long as you don't set your mind on becoming the best trainer in your community, it is quite possible to do without it.

How do I fix Pokémon Go's GPS issues?

It sometimes happens that the phone displays GPS signal not found on the application and does not display anything in the game. First of all, check that the location mode of the phone is set to "High Precision". Then, the best is still to consult our guide: "How to fix GPS location problems?" "

How do you get Pokémon Go to use less battery?

If you've ever launched Pokémon Go on your smartphone, you've found that the game is extremely battery-hungry and tends to heat the phone up more than it should.

Pokémon Go: all our tips and walkthroughs to get started

In-game options include a power saving mode.

Unfortunately, there is no silver bullet to this. Just do we find in the application settings an "energy saving" mode that automatically blacks the screen when the phone is held upside down. But nothing more. And the application no longer works (and no longer takes into account the user's steps) when it is closed.

When the phone is held upside down and power saving mode is on, the screen turns black.

Finally, note that we have seen people appear on social networks who claim that downloading their local map on Google Maps saves data and therefore the autonomy of their phone. This has been contradicted by developers close to Niantic.
