Razer Raiju Review: The Pro Pad for PlayStation 4

The passion for the eSports which in recent years is spreading more and more, is leading various companies to think and build the most suitable tools for this type of player. To hone their skills, these new athletes get to play long hours a day and need every possible comfort. So, little by little, gaming peripherals are evolving to be the perfect competitive tools for every gamer. Razer with the series Razer Raiju, decided to bring the excellence of pro controllers to PS4, in fact, recently two new models have been released which evolve what had been done with the basic Raiju model.

These two new models. L’Ultimate and Tournament Edition, have brand new functions and improved features after the experience of the previous model. We have tested the new one Razer Raiju Tournament Edition, mid-range pad for PS4 that can also be used on PC.

Razer Raiju: Key Features

At first glance, you can immediately see how the dimensions of the Razer Raiju are larger than the classic Dualshock. Despite this, it still tends to respect the typical structure of a PS4 controller. However, it is undeniable that both the skeleton and the arrangement of the two analogue levers, asymmetrical, are the inspiration for the Xbox One.

Once picked up it is very comfortable, with a soft rubber that makes the grip pleasant to the touch and not tiring even after long gaming sessions. Main feature of the pad are i four additional keys and configurable, two on the inside next to the classic L1 and R1 and two square and flat below the handle, where our ring fingers usually converge.

These keys will be fully configurable via the companion app downloadable on iOS and Android, with which it will be possible to create different custom configurations to change according to the game or the type of gameplay. The app is quite simple and intuitive to use and in a few seconds you will have created your personal configuration.

A button on the front of the device will allow us to change between normal and customized configuration.

Present also an option to make sure that the two R2 / L2 rear triggers can work by making half a click instead of a full one, so as to be more functional in the most hectic titles.

The pad is also compatible for PC, either via USB cable or with functionality Bluetooth, simply install the drivers (usually installed automatically) to be able to use it easily.

Razer Raiju: in the middle of the action

Having become familiar with this tool, we took the field to understand how it behaves in the game. Among the titles we tested, we tested its operation with Destiny 2 and the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. The response of the commands, compared to those of the classic Dualshock, is much more accommodation, with a greater precision of the two sticks (it will go to taste, but the asymmetry helps a lot in this), and the main keys much more precise than normal.

The triggers give a greater feel sensibility especially when firing, and the extra keys are functional and not too uncomfortable to press. It all depends on how you decide to configure them.

Obviously the Razer Raiju is not only designed for shooters, it also defends itself well with fighting games, thanks to a greater precision of the D-Pad than the classic pad (even if for those who want to get serious there is the Panthera), and the quantity top of keys makes it convenient even for those titles with many functions, such as an RPG a la Skyrim eg.

The performance of the Razer Raiju on balance is fairly superior to a classic pad, thanks to greater ergonomics and more responsive keys. The only thing a little short of is excessive weight, which is felt compared to a Dualshock.

Ultimately we are faced with a good pad for PS4 and PC, capable of guaranteeing excellent results with any type of game.
