Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise!

Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise!

Realme X2 Pro it is the second smartphone of the Chinese brand to pass through my clutches and it only confirms the initial feeling: Realme has all the credentials to conquer a good slice of the market. The strong points are those we had already identified a few months ago: lots of power, great build quality, good camera and competitive prices. But let's put aside these general considerations to go into detail and explain what Realme X2 Pro really has to offer.

Design minimale e display a 90 Hz

Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise!Aesthetically, Realme X2 Pro does not reserve big surprises: the design is rather minimal, the dimensions are quite generous, the body is in glass and the profile in matt aluminum. Two colors: Lunar White o Neptune Blue, the one we tried. Pretty? It certainly has its charm but we are starting to get a little tired of all these blue smartphones and we hope that 2020 will bring with it some news in this field.

On the back we find four cameras, slightly raised compared to the rest of the body, the LED flash and the annoyingly decentralized Realme logo.

On the right side instead we find the on and off button with a golden line in the center, but also the slot for the two SIMs and the microSD; on the left instead the volume rocker, while at the bottom we have the 3,5 mm jack, the USB-C input and the speaker.

A small note: the power button and the dedicated volume button are perfectly symmetrical, but this only makes them visually perfect. In practice, we have accumulated an infinite series of screenshots of the home due to the continuous accidental pressing of both keys.

Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise! Finally, we come to the front of this smartphone. Here we find the 6,5-inch SuperAMOLED display with Full HD + resolution, a small drop notch in the center and rather contained frames. The plus is represented by the refresh rate a 90 Hz, element that guarantees a really high fluidity.

This is accompanied by brilliant colors, excellent brightness, the possibility of choosing the profile and color temperature.

The only flaw is the always-on display, which unfortunately only shows the time, date and remaining battery. No notifications then. For those you will have to unlock the device.

Finally, we point out that the screen integrates the fingerprint reader, fast and precise.

Impossible calls

Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise!Below the body we find cutting-edge hardware: Snapdragon 855+ processor, 6/8/12 GB of internal memory, Adreno 640 GPU and 64/128/256 GB of internal memory. In short, everything you need.

Connectivity is also at the top, complete with NFC for digital payments, while it is the software is still a bit immature. Not so much in terms of functionality - since there really is everything - as graphically: the ColorOS in fact continues to have little appeal compared to the UI offered by competitors.

But what really baffled me during the two weeks in the company of Realme X2 Pro concerns the telephone sector. Not because they don't feel well or don't take enough, but because, despite blocking the device during calls, there was no phone call in which I did not end up pausing, activating the loudspeaker, mute or ending the call. All accidentally. Eventually I gave up and started using the Realme Buds 2 to avoid unwanted contact with the display. I hope it is a software bug and that it will be fixed in the near future.

And autonomy? All in all in the norm: with 90 Hz active you will arrive at the end of the day as long as you make an average use of the device. If you think you are abusing it, perhaps it is better to opt for 60 Hz to save a little bit. In extreme cases you have it anyway the 50 W Super VOOC that puts the device back on track in just over half an hour.

64 megapixel per Realme X2 Pro

Realme X2 Pro review: what a surprise! The main sensor of this Realme 2X Pro is from well 64 megapixel but this does not mean that you will have very heavy photographs that will fill the available space in a few weeks. In reality, the smartphone uses pixel binning technology to merge the information collected and thus produce 16 megapixel output. The result is really convincing, also thanks to HDR and artificial intelligence, even if it occasionally enters with a straight leg oversaturating the colors.

The photographs in low light conditions are also not bad, while those taken with the wide angle or with the 2x optical or 5x hybrid zoom are more than satisfactory.

Selfies taken with the 16 megapixel front camera and 4K videos that are not particularly stable are less satisfying.

Realme X2 Pro review: buy it or not?

The official arrival on the Italian market has slightly raised the cost of the smartphone that is now being sold starting from 449,99 euros. A definitely price interesting for a very well equipped top of the range. Too bad for the negative experience with the management of phone calls but I hope it's a bug that can be solved with an update or - I can't rule it out - a problem with our sample.
