Touchwiz, Samsung Experience and One UI: a digital heart

Samsung has always been a brand that boasts one of the prominent positions for devices that adopt Android, the software Made by Google. Samsung's first device to adopt Android was the Samsung Galaxy, devoid of other denominations, forerunner and founder of the Galaxy series. For years Samsung has been producing the well-known devices Nexus, we remember Samsung Nexus S, Nexus and Google Nexus; devices equipped with Android in the Stock version produced by other companies but made in collaboration with Google.

Touchwiz

Samsung's desire to create its own custom interface begins to take shape already with the first Galaxy S. Samsung names this UI, Touckwiz; Samsung's skin is characterized by very realistic shapes and icons, far removed from today's material design. Sounds and animations are inspired by the nature and the details are always exaggerated. Precisely for this reason, TouchWiz has always been at the center of slowdowns and small lags due to the complexity of the interface in relation to the software installed in its devices.

With Samsung Galaxy SIII the touchwiz reaches its "peak" with the desire to refer the whole system (sounds, animations and icons) to elements of nature, such as water e light. With the arrival of Galaxy S4 the same philosophy is maintained, with unlock animations characterized by a ripple of water or a ray of sunshine. Thanks to Galaxy S5, Samsung, like other companies, begins to imagine one simplification of its UI, removing the most complex details to make way for a more global linearity. Despite this, the Touchwiz remains the element that most distinguishes the rich software of Galaxy smartphones.

Samsung Experience

Every year Samsung modifies, improves and simplifies the historic interface. With the release of the innovative S8, the Korean company wants to get out of the ordinary by innovating also in the software: the touchwiz is replaced with the Samsung Experience. The latter is characterized by new icons, a new menu organization and a general simplicity of the whole smartphone. To celebrate the beginning of the era of more elongated devices, the whole interface is affected, including the font, by elements with a small upward trend. This design element allows you to make sense even of the screen that develops more vertically. In addition, new modes and applications are added, including: Samsung Dex, the personal area and other applications made by Samsung.

When the evolution of the much-loved S2018 comes out in 8, the interface seems to remain for once in Samsung's history, unchanged. For this reason, the Korean company amazes everyone with the presentation, a few months after the launch of the S9 and Note 9, of a new and innovative software interface: it's the turn of the beloved One UI.

One UI

The One UI is completely different from all previous Android skins made by Samsung: the interface is fluid, fresh, clean and minimal. One of the two features that have made One UI the best interface for Android smartphones, after the stock of course, is the graphic consistency between hardware and software. Samsung has been very careful with this detail: all system elements feature the same curvature adopted in screens of Samsung devices; each element respects its space and also the font has the same radius of curvature as the corners of the display. This is summed up in a perfect graphic consistency, which makes the smartphone pleasant to use.

Furthermore, the well-known Korean company has realized that current smartphones are too large to be used with one hand and has noticed that much of the display remains unused. For this reason he drew distribution of the menus again, dividing the screen into two blocks: the first, which is at the top, presents only the application name in large dimensions. The other block, at the bottom, is the interaction area which presents all the menus. With a simple swipe towards the other, the text can be hidden to return to a more basic view.

Now all of Samsung's interface is consistent with its devices and has become one of the best replacement for Android Stock. We also remind you that Samsung also produces wearable devices which, in turn, have software managed entirely by the company.

The One UI beyond the smartphone

Tizen OS is Samsung's proprietary software that has recently been updated with the arrival of the much-loved ONE UI. The operating system for wearble is characterized by rounded elements (obvious reference to the ring and the round screen of the wearble) with a preference for the dark tones favored by the amoled screen of the devices. Furthermore, the whole system is perfectly connected that the whole ecosystem of the company. For this topic, we refer you to our experiment with all Samsung devices that you can find by clicking here.
