We have tested the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, the younger brother of the flagship product Galaxy Note 10 plus, from which it inherits almost the same features but with a smaller form factor. After a month of use we tell you what we think!

Samsung Galaxy Note 10: the technical characteristics

As indicated earlier in our article, it seems only right to report the technical information of both terminals which, as we will see, differ in some details that could be vital for some of you.

colors

The phone is currently available in colors Aura Glow e Aura Black. The color tested in this review is Aura Black, as you will see from the photos it seems to have a blue prevalence. It is interesting because, depending on the lights, you will see the coloring change dramatically. Personally I prefer this one over the other, since we are not talking about the usual classic black.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 review: materials and assembly

The phone is mostly in glass, with frames in aluminum and a assembly really of high quality. In fact, taking it in hand you feel it solidity, a good grip and a grip which does not appear never uncertain, even without using a case.

    Minimal design

Finally, with something different than usual, Samsung this time has completely hit the spot. Squared but harmonious lines, no notch, hidden speaker in a slot e camouflaged front camera, in short, the watchword "Minimal".

Complete picture one cornice black around the screen very fine which, combined with a dark background, is completely lost, given the extreme contrast of the display AMOLED. Thanks to the curved lines edge, you will really feel like you are holding a display and nothing more. Trust me, this makes it really exciting.

As in almost all high-end terminals, here too, we do not find the much acclaimed headphone connector. Personally, I prefer to have a slightly larger battery and forgo this timeless plug. It is known, however, that some do not like this policy very much.

    Display

There is no other device on the market with a well-made and assembled display like this. This statement would be enough to conclude the display section, but the edge angle, the truly infinite contrast, the support forHDR10 +, the inevitable blue light filter and the resolution FHD +, or 1080 × 2280, make it truly the flagship device in its category.

Wanting to nitpick, as in all AMOLED displays, the only thing to report is a very light flickering in direct sunlight, a problem that many of you will not even notice in reality.

To protect ours AMOLED Infinity-O, we find the Gorilla Glass 6, while to protect our device from prying eyes there is the ultrasonic fingerprint reader, positioned under the screen. Unfortunately, after a month of use, I can say that I do not like this solution very much, as it often does not correctly detect the fingerprint.

    Android 9.0 and One UI

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 comes out with Android 9.0 and the classic One UI launcher Samsung which will soon be updated to version 2.0. I'm not a big fan of this launcher, as sometimes, even just opening the applications page, there is some hesitation too. Let it be clear, nothing too alarming, in fact for many users it remains a certainty. Don't worry though: we're on Android, so free launchers for everyone! For example, I preferred the good Nova Launcher.

    S Pen

While I'm not a huge fan of using the stylus on these types of devices, I have to admit that the Freehand writing works really well. The feedback on the screen is instantaneous, the pen, in combination with the supplied film already installed on the smartphone, it really flows beautifully. Really useful part of "Conversion" from handwritten text, using the application you find on the device you will see your handwriting instantly transform into text. In my case, for example, the handwriting is not the best, but I have never had any problems with converting the text.

Furthermore, the pen can be used for other functions: if you are a fan of Selfie, for example, you can use it as a trigger to capture the moment from a distance.

    Cameras and night mode

The section that many of you have been waiting for. Samsung amazed me this time: the camera finally has one colorimetry, although not yet perfect, much more true to reality compared to the past. The images are hot just enough and they are never too lively. L'exposure it is rated very well in almost all situations. Excellent the wide camera, remaining in the same shooting point, it is possible to obtain shots unthinkable up to now.

Below we can see some tests made in the City of Trento, the tests were done using the three shooting modes of the phone, 2x 1x 0.5x.

    2X mode

    1X mode

    0.5X mode

We also did a quick test of the much acclaimed Night mode, which allows you to increase the amount of light recorded by slightly raising the shutter speed and interpolating the result using the software on the phone. Obviously all automatically. Let's see the results below, the first photo is taken in normal mode, the second one uses night mode.

      Normal Mode

      Night mode

The night mode highlights the contrasts e enhance the details. In this situation, however, albeit the photo is more defined and technically better, as a whole, the one taken without help seems more pleasant, as if to enhance the "softness" of the warm lights that illuminate the church. Personally, not wanting to look at the detail of the shot, I prefer the normal one, as overall it shows warmer colors, while actually losing a lot of details compared to the night mode.

The photos taken previously have been resized to ensure usability through the site.

        Telephone

Do you start talking about the telephone part of a smartphone? Can they really be used for that too? Well yes. The Note 10 in particular has a speaker at the top, which is used for the stereophony, for example when we listen to music or watch a movie. This solution has recently been adopted by almost all manufacturers as it is the winning one. Although the slot, where the sound comes out, is really hidden in the frame above the display, the phone is heard in the vast majority of moments perfectly.

La quality of the calls è excellent, whether or not in the presence of Volta. The volume on call is not the strongest, but in the most problematic moments, for example construction sites, fairs or crowded places, it always returns good feedback in conversation.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 review: buy it or not?

At the end of it all, is it really worth giving up the things that are missing from the plus model? I can only tell you that if you are looking for the best Android smartphone of the moment, in my opinion, you have found it. The phone is absolutely interesting from all points of view. Personally I prefer this form factor over the larger one, since the shortcomings with the older brother are not perceived in the least.

We also recommend this product, for those looking for a high-end phone and want to try the Android experience, coming from the iPhone. You will see that you will not be disappointed.
