The SNCF Android application is enhanced by the purchase and validation of RATP tickets

SNCF will update its smartphone application by including a set of services intended for users of public transport in the Ile-de-France region. They will now be able to buy tickets for the lines managed by the RATP and validate their transport ticket with their smartphone. The only constraint: the mobile must be NFC compatible.

Dematerialization continues at SNCF and RATP. After virtualizing mainline train tickets, SNCF is extending this transition to public transport in the Ile-de-France region. Indeed, it will soon be possible to buy tickets from the Assistant SNCF application available on Android. All lines managed by the Ile-de-France region are taken care of. There are of course the subways, trams and buses, not to mention the RER accessible with a T + Ticket. Note that tickets for the Orlybus and Roissybus are also supported.

Single tickets (or booklets) are not the only tickets concerned, since Navigo packages are also affected. Please note, only weekly and monthly packages are offered in the application. The annual Navigo package is not affected. But it would make sense for it to be soon. Thanks to the integration of RATP tickets, the SNCF application is now the most complete in its category, since it already made it possible to buy and validate an SNCF ticket (except TER), to order a VTC, to find carpooling or renting an electric scooter.

Purchase and validation from the smartphone

The purchase is not the only novelty brought to the application in connection with the RATP. The SNCF Assistant also makes it possible to validate virtual tickets from a smartphone. The only prerequisite for this to work: the phone must be equipped with an NFC chip (which is currently the case with the vast majority of mid-range models and all flagships). To do this, simply present the back of the phone to the location of the Navigo cards at the access doors and you're done. According to SNCF, validation does not require the application to be open in the background. And, best of all, validation would work even if the phone is discharged or turned off. However, not all smartphone models are compatible, but the management does not specify which ones.

Some additional restrictions are to be expected on some smartphones. The SIM cards of all the operators would not be compatible (at least initially) and an additional extension sometimes has to be installed (like that of Wizway, preinstalled on NFC compatible smartphones from Samsung since the beginning of the year 2021) . Finally, little information for Apple customers: they are simply not affected. Apple refusing any company to bypass Apple Pay, the purchase of transport tickets or packages is disabled. Validation of titles could get there, but not in the first place.
