Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro review: a real flagship killer?

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro will land on the market in a couple of weeks, just three months after its younger brother, Mi 9T. But does it really make sense to exist? And, above all, what distinguishes it from the Mi 9T launched in June? We talk about it in this review.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro vs Mi 9T: the similarities

The points in common between the two devices are really many. The shapes are identical, the weight and dimensions are unchanged and the colors are the same. The also returns pop-up camera, located on the upper profile, as well as the on / off button - with the usual central red line - and the volume rocker, both housed on the right side. The lower part is dedicated to the mono speaker, the USB-C connector and the 3,5 mm jack.

Nothing really changes when you look at it either the display, from 6,39 inches, AMOLED and totally devoid of notches and holes, thanks to the aforementioned pop-up camera. Great brightness, good color rendering and even Anti-flicker mode - nothing is really missing.

What about the hardware? There is some difference - which we will discuss later - but many elements have been copied from the younger brother. On Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro we therefore find the two memory cuts of the younger brother, that is 64 and 128 GB, but also the already tried 6 GB of RAM e the 4000 mAh battery. The latter accompanies you without great difficulty at the end of the day even after intensive use; with a milder use you could peacefully cover 36 hours.

Of course, connectivity is also unchanged, with the inevitable USB Type-C, but also GPS, dual band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, essential for electronic payments. The software also remains the same, Android 9.0 with MIUI 10.3.1. The priority interface carries with it some interesting additional features - including the "Second Space" to divide personal life from work - but also the usual problem of notifications, visible only upon arrival. In short, to understand who was looking for you you will necessarily have to lower the dedicated curtain.

Last, but not least, the photographic sector. Again, no surprise. We therefore find the triple rear camera with the 48 megapixel main sensor - the usual Sony IMX586 -, the 13 megapixel wide angle and the 8 megapixel telephoto lens. Together they assure you great versatility and a really high quality, which has little to envy to more noble devices, especially considering the price of this Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro which remains firmly under 500 euros.

The front camera is also good, while the videos, which reach a resolution of 4K @ 60fps, continue to suffer a little from the absence of an optical stabilizer.

Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro vs Mi 9T: the differences

What distinguishes Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro from Mi 9T? As anticipated above, it is the hardware that makes the difference. The new smartphone inherits the processor and GPU from the Mi 9 launched in February. This means that on board we find the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and an Adreno 640, a combination that guarantees a lot of power and fluidity.

    Which one to buy?

But if they are practically the same why spend more? Why invest 100 euros more? There are two reasons why you should evaluate Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro and not its almost twin: durability and video games. The 449 euros of the 128 GB version - the only one that will arrive in Italy - are justified by the fact that the greater power should hold up heavier and more complex variants of both the operating system and the applications that you normally use. In short, in the long run you should suffer less slowdowns than the model with Snapdragon 730.

If you love playing with your smartphone then you should definitely focus on Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, so as to always count on optimal performance even with the most demanding titles.

For the rest, you will have understood, nothing changes, which translates into an excellent display, excellent autonomy and a camera that will give you a lot of satisfaction.

Do you want to buy it? Know that pre-orders on Amazon and on the Mi Store will open on August 26 while sales will begin on September 2.
