You can buy Apple's first computer on eBay for just $ 1,5 million

If you've ever wanted to own a piece of computer history, this might be the right opportunity. A working Apple 1 appeared on eBay, a model of the first line of computers launched by Apple in '76. There is only one small problem: it will cost you around 1,5 million dollars.

Apple 1 will only cost you $ 1,5 million

Apple I, also known as Apple 1, is a rare heirloom, highly sought after by Apple fans. According to Cult of Mac, this model was designed and hand built by Steve Wozniak and sold wholesale by Steve Jobs. To pay for production costs, Wozniak had to sell his HP-65 calculator, and Jobs his Volkswagen van. Behind this Apple I, then, is an incredible story that almost makes it worth the asking price.

Apple 1 for sale on eBay, of which the seller claims to have a certificate of authenticity from the Apple-1 registry, it's special because it appears to be one of 50 sold at Byte Shop. It is one of the first PC stores to ever exist. The listing states that the computer is inside its original Byte Shop wooden case and also includes an original power supply and the Datanetics Version D keyboard.

The vendor, krishmiti, claims that the Apple-1 NTI card is unmodified and is in almost perfect condition. The bundle also includes a vintage Sony TV-115 and a video modulator (to use the computer, users had to add their own keyboard and monitor or TV).

A very respectable technical sheet… at the time

This technological dinosaur had a microprocessore MOS 6502 a 8 bit which ran at 1 MHz. In terms of memory, it included 4KB which could be increased to 8KB or 48KB using expansion cards. Only 200 Apple computers 1 were made, as well as a few pre-production cards. Their starting price was $ 666,66.

Decades later, these devices have reached much higher prices. In 2010, an Apple 1 computer in its original packaging with a signed letter from Jobs was sold for dollars 210.000. After that, in 2014, an Apple-1 computer was auctioned for 905.000 dollars, which is the highest price ever paid for a vintage Apple computer to date. The krishmiti salesman obviously wants to break that record.

There are very few Apple I's in the world, both because it's an old device, and because Apple at the time allowed you to trade in your computer in exchange for an Apple II. The latter became Apple's first mass-market computer. Is Apple I really worth $ 1,5 million? We will find out soon. If you don't know how to spend your money and have a few million dollars left over, the ad is active and it could be your chance to go down in history.
