If you want a change of scenery by modifying your Android system, good news, the Firefox OS APK in version 2.5 is now available. This new ROM is a Developers Preview version allowing you to familiarize yourself with the OS created by the Mozilla foundation.
Still at the experimental stage, the Firefox OS operating system had come out at the beginning of the summer in a version already easily installable directly on Android. Offering a limited use and bringing its share of bugs and other inconsistencies, it nevertheless had the merit of offering an interesting first glimpse.
Today, a more advanced version is made downloadable and installable. Still taking the form of an Android executable, once launched, the file will behave like a classic Android application launcher replacing some elements of your desktop. Achieving all the same a little more since this new OS will be able to transform your systems applications like phone, text messages, mailbox, Play Store, etc. You will still be able to use your usual applications.
What's New in Firefox OS v2.5
- Extensions : similar to those that can be added to the web browser, extensions can apply to one or more applications including native ones.
- Private browsing with anti-tracking : function inaugurated in version 42 of the browser, this improvement in the protection of your Web sessions makes it possible to manage the level at which your navigation can be traced by Internet sites.
- Pin The Web : bypassing the distinction between web or mobile version of websites, you can “pin” to your desktop the websites or web pages you want to consult later.
Mozilla adds, however, that to make this version 2.5 exploitable on Android, its engineers had to circumvent some restrictions. Also, being still in the development stage, fluidity problems and other faults are possible, in particular at the level of the navigation buttons, the Back key would not work properly, Firefox OS relying only on a Home key.
