Microsoft and Nintendo: a partnership and the Game Pass on the Switch are coming?

An old urban legend tells that when Microsoft appeared for the first time in the gaming world, more than twenty years ago, he made a purchase proposal to Nintendo, getting a resounding laugh from the managers of the Japanese company in response.

Today, according to an insider, the two giants would be in negotiation to create a partnership unspecified by the end of the year.

Microsoft e Nintendo: partnership nell’aria?

Spreading the rumor of a potential collaboration was a rather reliable insider of the sector, Shpeshal Ed, which through a post on Twitter he revealed that Microsoft and Nintendo would be close to signing an agreement by this fall.

According to Shpeshal, the partnership would now almost be a reality, however it is not clear what the main topic of the negotiations between the two companies is, which has led the online community to speculate on the subject. One of the most accredited theories would see the arrival of Microsoft Game Pass also on Nintendo Switch consoles.

This possibility is not to be discarded a priori, even in the face of the previous rumors that the Game Pass was coming to Nintendo consoles. This choice would be perfectly compatible with the much chat and never confirmed Nintendo Switch Pro, which would remove many of the hardware limitations of the Japanese hybrid and allow Game Pass games to run smoothly.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo would have a lot to gain from such a partnership: the Japanese company would be able to launch its new console with a large selection of titles available, thanks to the Game Pass, while the Redmond giant would bring its service to a platform that sells almost twice as much as the Xbox.

Other users seem to be convinced that this collaboration is focused on the introduction of Master Chief at Halo in Smash Bross Ultimate. This hypothesis, however, would not be as impactful as the one concerning the Game Pass, despite Master Chief being one of the most requested characters by the community.

Microsoft between acquisitions and collaborations

The US company for its part seems to have big plans for the future of its gaming division. To prove it there is the huge acquisition of ZeniMax and Bethesda which took place only a few months ago and finalized for 7.5 billion dollars.

With this purchase Microsoft has brought under the wing of the Xbox Games Studios several major videogame sagas, such as Doom, Fallout e The Elder Scrolls, which could become Xbox exclusives in the near future. But it doesn't stop there.

According to various rumors, the company is already looking at the next big acquisition, which should be announced between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, in conjunction with the reveal of the partnership with Nintendo. Journalist Brad Sams has already indicated two European studies to which Microsoft's attention would be directed: Techland e ASOBO.

Techland is the Polish software house that gave birth to Dead Island e Dying Light (currently working on the sequel), however the studio has already made it clear in the past that it wants to remain independent, to preserve its productive autonomy.

Asobo, on the other hand, is the French studio he developed A Plague Tale: Innocence. The software house is already on excellent terms with Microsoft, since it has collaborated with the company for the creation of Flight Simulator, and is the most eligible option for a possible new purchase of the Xbox Game Studios.

In short, Microsoft seems willing to invest heavily in its gaming division and we do not find it hard to believe that it is turning its attention to Nintendo to enrich the audience of players to whom it offers its service.
