Motorola One Review: Motorola's first Android One smartphone

Motorola decided to bring his newcomer to Italy, a little by surprise. Yes, because initially Motorola One it does not seem to be destined for our country. But now he has landed on the shelves and seems ready to give a hard time to the competition.

Motorola's first notch

Motorola One shows up with a metal profile and a glass back, a mix that gives an absolutely premium feeling and that goes well with excellent build quality. In short, the newcomer of the American company is solid, resistant and characterized by small dimensions, which allows you to manage everything even with one hand.

To characterize it we also find a quick fingerprint reader located on the back, the speaker and the USB-C connector located on the lower profile and the inevitable 3,5mm jack that you find along the upper edge. The right side instead includes the on and off button and the volume rocker, while on the left we have the 2 SIM and microSD slot.

The front instead houses a 5,9-inch LTPS IPS display with HD + resolution, a choice that does not penalize in everyday use but that clashes a little with the price of this Motorola One. For 299 € in fact I would have expected a nice Full HD. However, it will not be the pixels of the screen that will catch the eye but the presence of a very large notch, notch that significantly reduces the space dedicated to notifications.

Il primo smartphone Android One

Below the body we find the 625 GHz Snapdragon 2 processor, flanked by the Adreno 506 GPU and 4 GB of RAM. The result is an extremely smooth device in daily use, capable of keeping up with even the most demanding users. Then we have on board 64 GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD.

Excellent connectivity and absolutely good audio, characterized by a decidedly high volume and crystal clear sound. The software on the other hand is Android 8.1 Oreo, flanked by the October security patches. What distinguishes this Motorola One, however, is the fact of being a Android One. This means that you will receive the next 2 versions of Android and all the security updates necessary to protect the device.

To be noted then the presence of two functions now typical of Motorola smartphones: Moto Display e Moto Actions. The first allows you to preview notifications on the lock screen while the second allows you to start the flashlight and camera with simple gestures.

Finally, autonomy should not be forgotten. We only have 3.000 mAh available but the optimization made by the American giant allows you to arrive smoothly at the end of the day.

Average camera

The photographic sector is not particularly surprising. Motorola One in fact comes with a double rear sensor, one 13 megapixel with F / 2.0 aperture and one 2 megapixel with F / 2.4 aperture. Together they guarantee shots more than discreet in good light conditions, while, as often happens with smartphones of the same range, they lose incisiveness in the dark.

You also have some useful and interesting features such as HDR, Portrait mode and Color Point, which allows you to keep a single tone and apply black and white to the rest of the photo.

Discreet the front camera that does not reach particular peaks as well as the rendering of videos in 4K.
