After careful analysis on eBay, one of the editors of The Verge managed to discover the real price of Sony's new console, the PlayStation 5 and not only. Also there Xbox Series X and new NVIDIA graphics cards they actually have different prices. Let's analyze the situation better.
What is the real price of PlayStation 5?
Last week one of The Verge's editors was taking a look at eBay, trying to decide whether to sell or not his PlayStation 5. He doesn't want to be a scalper but admits it's harder and harder to ignore now the real value of the console.
So he thought about taking a look at the resale market and found that it is really worth a lot.
And it's not just the PlayStation 5 that costs a lot. He found that even the Xbox Series X and S, NVIDIA's RTX 3090, 3080, 3070 and 3060 graphics cards, and AMD's rival RX 6800 and 6800 XT GPUs all have incredibly high prices on the resale market.
The prices are so high that even a person who bought the console for the purpose of using it could fall into temptation e resell it. Editor Sean Hollister gives an example: The PlayStation 5 with hard drive retails for $ 499,99.
On eBay though it is practically worth twice as much. Hollister averaged the actual final selling price of a hundred PS5s, subtracting some outliers, to arrive at a selling price of $ 1.024. Mind you, that's not the asking price - it's what people are actually paying for these consoles.

He used the same method for the PS5 Digital Edition and the new Xboxes. Here are the results:
- PlayStation 5 with disc drive: retail price 499 euros - "street" price 1,024 €;
- PS5 All Digital: retail price 399 euros - "street" price 990 €;
- Xbox Series X: retail price 499 euros - "street" price 853 €;
- Xbox Series S: retail price 299 euros - "street" price 471 €.
High prices and few purchases - are we sure?
Hollister however noted that the consoles they are not doing great on eBay. Effectively few units were sold, unlike graphics cards that seem to be enjoying a lot of success. Every listing available on eBay has already been bought by someone or has found its buyer.
As they have repeated more on The Verge website, graphics cards at the moment are impossible to buy in a real shop for their retail price. Unless you are lucky or have no contacts, you may not be able to find one available.
This is the main reason why it is the most popular product on eBay.
