The Xbox FUSION Pro Wired Controller Review: The Third Party Controller's Revenge

We have tried the new one for you FUSION Pro Wired Controller per Xbox, the wired controller of PowerA designed for professional gamers that promises stability, efficiency and excellent performance. The controller is compatible with Xbox consoles, including the recent Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S but is also usable on PC.

Let's find out how he performed during our trial weeks.

Controller pro for Xbox by PowerA

In the life of every gamer, sooner or later, the time comes to face a game with a friend using the much feared "third party controllers". With this name we define all those console controllers that were not created by the same company that produced the respective consoles. Our childhood taught us that third-party controllers don't bode well. Dazzling lights, cheap materials and an elusive “TURBO” button that messed up the game's space-time continuum have been part of these types of controllers for years. But thankfully, that period seems to be over, and Power A's FUSION Pro Wired Controller for Xbox is proof of that.

Design

The controller comes in a elegante all black except for the outlines of buttons and analogs surrounded by a metal-colored circle. On the upper facade we find the same keys as the standard Xbox controller but there is no "share" button, only introduced with the current console generation. On the back we find three new functions in the original controller. First we find the Trigger Lock, three-level levers that allow us to lock the triggers at three predefined "heights". We will discover their function later in the review.

In the center we find an opening compartment in which the so-called can be inserted For Pack, an accessory included in the package, which allows you to add four keys for total control. In this regard, we find the Program key which will allow you to program game by game which function the keys we have just entered correspond to.

Le dimensions of the controller are almost identical to the original Xbox but it turns out slightly heavier. In our personal opinion, the weight gave us a feeling of greater stability and better grip. This is also enhanced by the back of the joystick featuring a thin layer in knurled rubber which guarantees an excellent feeling without making your hands sweat.

Customization

One element that characterizes this and other PowerA controllers is the great possibility of customization of the controller. Among these we find the aforementioned function of Trigger Lock. These are two levers (one per trigger) located on the back of the controller that physically lock the trigger at three different heights. This means that when you position the Trigger Lock at level 3, we will have to go deeper with the trigger to carry out the certain game action. On the contrary, at level 1, it will not be necessary to go to the bottom and the action will be much more immediate, saving us precious milliseconds. This is an extremely function versatile and it should not be underestimated that Fr.can make a difference in video games as diverse as shooters or racing games that need a different trigger reactivity.

Added to this is the For Pack which can be inserted or removed at will. The Pro Pack adds 4 buttons that can be "clicked" with the fingers that normally remain dormant holding a controller in hand. This is also an extremely useful feature that can be a winner for competitive video games and pro players. The Pro Pack needs some practice both at the programming and logistical level. Finding yourself with four more keys is suddenly not easy and it takes a lot of practice to master the potential of the accessory.

Another level of customization is given by the possibility of replace controller sticks. In addition to those already inserted, we find 2 other sticks in the variants short, long, convex and concave which can be changed very easily. The upper skeleton of the controller, in fact, can be detached and reattached easily thanks to the use of magnets. Goodbye small lives that roll everywhere! In this way it is possible to replace the sticks or two decorative rings. In fact, in the package we find two Xbox green rings to be replaced at will.

Performances

Power A's FUSION Pro Wired Controller for Xbox is a wired controller and can only work with the use of wire. This is to ensure the best performance and minimize the action / reaction times in the game. The supplied cable is 3 meters long so that it can be used comfortably from the sofa but, unfortunately, it still has a type 2 input (on the controller).

This minor obsolescence aside, the controller lived up to our expectations.

Our test of Power A's FUSION Pro Wired Controller for Xbox

The Xbox FUSION Pro Wired Controller Review: The Third Party Controller's Revenge

We tested the FUSION Controller for about 1 month on both PC and Xbox Series S, scrambling it with many types of games to test its effectiveness. The controller weight, we recall slightly higher than the original Xbox, it was one of the elements that we liked the most. For our hands, the weight and grip that is created have created the perfect combination for exceptional gaming sessions. This factor could however not be suitable for everyone especially for those with small hands or who get tired easily from holding the controller up for a long time.

We tried using the Pro Pack with Rainbow Six Siege to test its effectiveness. There key programming it's more than simple. Just press the button for a few seconds PROGRAM and then indicate which key each lever will correspond to by pressing them in sequence. Remember that the Pro Pack does not add four more buttons but allows you to assign the existing ones to the levers. This will allow you, in the case of Rainbow Six, to jump, reload or lower yourself without ever taking your thumb off the analogs, saving you several seconds, so precious in competitive video games.

The Pro Pack needs a lot of training especially to get your brain used to understanding that there are four keys where there were not before.

Final thoughts on PowerA's Pro Controller for Xbox and PC

The PowerA controller impressed us right away, thanks to a particularly nice package complete with a case for the controller, accessories, an instruction booklet and some stickers. The feeling you get when you take it in your hand is really enjoyable and the long gameplay sessions don't tire your hands. We have to admit, we didn't become Pro Player and the training that the Pro Pack requires has misled us from using it outside of this test. But if there's one thing this controller stands out for, it's versatility.

We have seen that the ways to customize it are many and adaptable to all types of hands and tastes. It is a well-made accessory that could upset your style of play and if you are more patient than us, succeed in videogame enterprises that you thought impossible.
