Walrus kills man over selfie

    Walrus kills man over selfie

Selfies and human silliness don't mix. We already knew that they were responsible for more deaths than sharks and we continue to have confirmation, this time a Chinese died for wanting to take a selfie with a walrus.

Selfies have been in fashion for a while, to the point where the word entered the dictionary and was even voted word of the year in 2013 by the very prestigious Oxford English Dictionnary. However, this phenomenon has led to drifts as always and we no longer count the deaths or damage, like this statue in Portugal, due to taking a picture with your smartphone.

This time the story takes place in a Zoo in China, the Yeshanko Wildlife Zoo in Liaoning Province. A man wanted take a selfie with a walrus. At first glance, nothing very bad, except that the man in question went over the fence of the enclosure to be as close as possible to the animal.

You should know that even if they seem harmless, walruses are animals that weigh between 800 and 1800 kg in adulthood, and also have ivory tusks. Its only two natural predators are the killer whale and the polar bear, in short, you should not look for them.

And obviously they don't like being taken too close for a selfie, because when the man got near him, the walrus grabbed him from behind and threw him into the pool, the impact made him lose knowledge and the man then drowned. By the time a guard intervened, it was too late. The zoo does not explain how the man was able to pass the enclosure so easily, and wished to compensate the family to the tune of 137 000 $.
