Wiko View 2 Pro review: between elegance and wide-angle photos

Al Mobile World Congress 2018 Wiko View 2 Pro he had managed to attract the attention of the entire trade press. The reason? An elegant design - with notch included - and a renewed and almost stock interface. But how does the French company's smartphone behave in everyday life? I'll tell you about it in this review.

When plastic becomes elegant

The first thing that catches the eye of this Wiko View 2 Pro is definitely the design. The device shows up with a sturdy aluminum profile ed a plastic back cover that simulates glass, a combination that makes this smartphone surprisingly elegant. But the footprints think about it: the back in fact tends to get dirty really too quickly, which will force you to clean it several times a day to return to having that pleasant mirror effect that characterizes it.

On the other hand, the dimensions are excellent, which allow you to use it easily with one hand, and the physical buttons, placed on the right profile of this View 2 Pro. The other sides are occupied by the speaker and the micro USB connector, placed on the lower profile, and from the 3,5 mm jack, which you find at the top. I also point out the presence of a notification LED on the front and of the fingerprint reader, placed instead on the back.

The display aroused mixed feelings in me: on the one hand the little notch it helps the device to stand out from the competition, on the other hand the poor optimization at the software level made me turn up my nose more than once. An example? Just start Spotify to see the time and battery percentage disappear. In fact, the icons of the notification bar will be hidden to make room for the commands of the music player, a solution that I did not particularly appreciate. On the other hand, the brightness of the screen, the relative sensor and the now inevitable ambient display are good.

Finally, I would like to point out that the 6-inch screen of the smartphone comes with a surprisingly low resolution, at least on paper. Do not worry though, in reality this HD + defends itself really well in everyday use.

Fluid and constant

Wiko View 2 Pro wants to look like a real top of the range, but only aesthetically. In fact, under the hood we find a low-mid-range processor, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and a decidedly well-optimized software. This means that yes, you may have to wait a few more milliseconds for the various applications to open, but the user experience will still be fluid, pleasant and constant. In short, in the end you will be able to enjoy it without any kind of problem.

The connectivity is good, both in 4G and WiFi, albeit with some limitations: the Dual SIM in fact requires the sacrifice of the microSD while the wireless connectivity is single band. Autonomy is also naturally promoted, which allows you to get to the end of the day without too much difficulty.

Nothing to say about the interface of this Wiko View 2 Pro, an interface which - as I mentioned initially - is now more similar to Android stock and which integrates some useful functions, including the ability to unlock the device with your face.

The charm of the wide angle

[

The solution adopted by Wiko reminded me a little of that of LG. We are in fact faced with a double rear camera with a traditional 16-megapixel F / 1.75 sensor and an 8-megapixel wide-angle one.

Of course, we are still far from the photographic quality of the Korean giant, but I must admit that wide-angle shots always have a certain charm and those of View 2 Pro are no less.

The main sensor also impressed me pleasantly in everyday use, at least in good lighting conditions. Also good are automatic HDR, portrait mode, 13 megapixel front camera and Full HD videos. Warning: if you want to use the wide angle for your movies, you will have to stop at HD.

Buy it or not buy it?

Wiko View 2 Pro is first of all an elegant device, a device that focuses on appearance to stand out from smartphones of the same range. Obviously this does not mean that it is not a good device, on the contrary, in daily use it has proved absolutely valid, but the price risks putting it in serious difficulty. TO 299 € in fact it is possible to find devices with less appeal but equipped with better processors.
