It is still early to know exactly which are the precise graphic changes that will be able to see the light with the update, however some sources speak of a new experience regarding the Start menu and the Action Center. Technically the changes will be very similar to those seen in Windows 10X but refined and adapted to the desktop. Microsoft is also reportedly working on a more modern code for the taskbar and to a new interface for Explorer.

The team would also be working on new smoother animations for an improvement of the tablet interface, changes that would accompany the new touch keyboard already appeared in the latest Developer Preview.

Some older parts of the UI will receive Dark Mode support in order to make the interface more consistent throughout the system. There are also rumors of increased use of WinUI throughout the Windows Shell and that should bring minor but welcome changes to the design.

When will the update be released? Obviously Microsoft never announces these kinds of changes and does not indicate a date as the development of a complex system like Windows can always face some obstacles and some of these new changes could be left out or completely rethought. However, Microsoft seems to want to be able to complete the work for a release in 2021.
