Fitbit Versa Lite review: the wearable that takes care of you

Fitbit Versa Lite review: the wearable that takes care of you

Lightweight, compact and designed to track any activity - on paper Fitbit Versa Lite one of the latest wearables presented by the American company, it seems to be a particularly interesting device, among other things sold at a lower price than its older brother. 159,99 € against € 199,99 for the standard variant and € 229,99 for the Special Edition. But how does this Versa Lite perform in everyday life? We tell you about it in this review.

Same design, new colors

The design of Fitbit Versa Lite is practically identical to that of the classic version: thin, light, with a more pronounced border on the lower part - so as to host the logo of the Californian brand - and with a 1,34-inch color touch display.

Instead, they are different colors. While the traditional Versa comes in Black, Peach and Gray, the Lite Edition offers something more flamboyant. We have the Blue version - the one we tested -, the Magenta one and then the more calm White and Lilac with the silver gray aluminum case. This means that you will be free to opt for something more evident and colorful or to stay on more subdued and sober colors.

Regardless of which choice you make, know that Fitbit Versa Lite is indisputably comfortable. In fact, the small size allows you to use it practically always, even while you sleep.

How to use it?

Fitbit Versa Lite shows up with a single button. He has three main functions: you can turn the screen on or off or return to the previous screen. That's all. For all the rest you can use the touchscreen. But what is the "rest"?

A swipe down will allow you to access the notifications, while an upward one will show instead the statistics of the day. Here you will find the number of steps taken, the kilometers traveled, the heart rate and the hours of sleep. Finally we have the possibility to swipe to the left, a gesture that will allow you to access the installed apps on your Fitbit Versa. By default you will have the application for training and for relaxation, but also alarm clock, weather, timer, settings, tips and Strava, a service dedicated to those who want to track their run or cycling activity.

Not enough for you? You can always use theFitbit application, available for Android and iOS, to install more. In fact, you have a rather well-stocked store that really includes everything: from Flipboard to Nest, from Spotify to Yelp.

However, the app on your smartphone also performs other functions. You can use it for change the dial, per consult all the statistics collected by Versa Lite, for track your menstrual cycle and to check the kg lost and the calories consumed. You can even report the amount of water ingested.

At your disposal then you also have the challenges to compare yourself with other community members e the advices to stay fit, provided by the Californian company. Alongside this, of course, the settings related to notifications, movement reminders and the synchronization. Unfortunately, the latter is not perfect. During the test I had to fight several times with apps, Bluetooth and devices. Nothing dramatic: sometimes it will simply decide not to work properly and then go back to syncing after a few hours.

Painless sacrifices

So far it all looks very similar to the big brother, but don't be fooled by the appearances. In fact, the name "Lite" is not accidental, but refers to a number of features and components that Fitbit has decided to remove and which allowed the company to cut the cost of the device.

Versa Lite therefore does not have an altimeter and WiFi, it does not show the exercises on the screen, it cannot store any music and it is not able to detect the floors climbed or to track the number of laps made in the pool. Also say goodbye to NFC and, consequently, to payments with the smartwatch, a function unfortunately reserved only for Versa and Versa Special Edition.

Don't panic though: I assure you that you will hardly notice the absence of these features. Sure, true athletes may be missing some of these features, but everyone else, anyone looking for a smartwatch for its ability to connect with the rest of the world without depending on a smartphone, won't particularly suffer.

Fitbit Versa Lite in everyday life

There are so many things about the Fitbit Versa Lite that I enjoyed on a daily basis: its size allows you to use it anywhere, sleep and activity tracking works pretty well and the water resistance eliminates the anxiety from “Oh my god, I forgot to take this off before washing my hands” and from “Gee, it's raining! And now how do I do it? ". The battery then allows you to use it for about 3 days without major problems. In short, if you want you can leave the charger at home and spend a weekend outdoors without worrying about running out of energy.

I then appreciated its ability to take care of you at 360 °. In fact, Fitbit Versa Lite is not only designed for fitness lovers, but thinks about your health thanks to small tricks such as the measurement of your heart rate, the section dedicated to the cycle and the possibility of indicating how much you drink in the course of a day. You can even launch the Relax app at the most stressful times of your day, so Versa Lite will guide you in your breathing and help calm you down.

Fitbit Versa Lite: buy it or not buy it?

Fitbit Versa Lite is undeniably a great wearable. It has a beautiful design, is super-compact, boasts excellent battery life and has everything you need to keep fit and take care of yourself. Of course, it doesn't have all the features and apps you find on devices with Wear OS and Watch OS, but in the end it offers everything you need.

Impossible not to mention the price: at € 159,99 it's a bargain.
